The Element of Freedom é o quinto álbum de Alicia Keys que, para além dos temas “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart” e “Doesn’t Mean Anything”, inclui uma versão sentida interpretada a solo pela cantora do tema “Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down”, um dueto animado com Beyoncé no tema “Put It In A Love Song”, “Un-thinkable (I’m Ready)” com a participação de Drake nos coros, o tema de sonoridade reggae “Love is My Disease”, uma faixa ao estilo do funk dos anos 80 “This Bed” e muitas outras pérolas musicais. O álbum foi produzido pela própria cantora, o seu colaborador de longa data Kerry “Krucial” Brothers, Jeff Bhasker, Swizz Beatz, e Noah “40” Shebib.
